The Garden

Pavers, a covered deck and a garden that glows at dusk

Interlocking pavers and pale large-format slabs tie the front walk, the driveway court and the back garden together. A covered deck with a cedar ceiling sits at the heart of the yard, and grasses, shrubs and a citrus tree are lit from below along the paths. Everything is built to be walked through at the end of the day.

Chapter 1 · The Arrival

A paver drive and slab walk to the front door

A brick-pattern paver driveway runs beside the house, and a pale slab walk crosses two lawns to the front porch. Low beds of grasses and flowering shrubs soften the edges, with small path lights along the walk.

Chapter 2 · The Paths

Slab paths through grasses and light

Large pale slabs lead from the back door and around the lawn, edged with beds of ornamental grasses and shrubs. Slim black path lights and small uplights pick out the plants as the sky darkens.

Chapter 3 · The Lawn Court

A lawn held by paving and planting

Chapter 4 · The Covered Deck

A cedar ceiling over a place to sit

A gabled roof with a cedar ceiling, recessed lights and ceiling fans covers a composite deck. Wide glass doors open to the indoor dining room, and a wall-mounted TV and lanterns make it an outdoor living room. The deck steps down to the paver court.
