The Garden

A patio that cooks, dines and lounges

Against a rising hillside, the terrace gives each activity its own corner: a built-in kitchen along the stepped wall, a long dining table in the middle and a shaded seating nook against the house. Light grey pavers tie it together by day, and low path lights and wall lights carry it after dark.

Chapter 1 · The Patio

Pavers, a stepped wall and a kitchen island

Large-format grey pavers lay out in a running pattern across the terrace. A built-in island with a stainless grill and storage sits tight against the segmental retaining wall, with ornamental grasses planted along the slope above.

Chapter 2 · The Covered Patio

A shaded corner for lounging

A covered patio at the back of the house gives the terrace a roofed seating area with a ceiling fan and a wall-mounted screen. The same pavers run right up to it, so the dining table and the lounge feel like one space.

Chapter 3 · After Dark

A terrace that glows

Path lights, wall lights and an under-counter strip along the kitchen island pick out the edges of the paving and the stepped wall. Up-lights in the hedge and tree finish the layered effect.
