Mid-Century Garden with Lit Terraces, Fire Table and Wood Pavilion

  • Hardscape
  • Outdoor Lighting
  • Pergolas + Fire Pits

A low-slung mid-century home gets glowing terraces, a concrete fire table and a cedar-roofed pavilion for evenings outside.

The Garden

A line of warm light ties every level together

This garden suits the clean, horizontal lines of the house. Pale pavers step down in crisp angles, each edge traced with a ribbon of warm light, and warm wood and a pop of orange repeat from the entry court to the pavilion at the back. By dusk the whole yard reads as one calm, glowing space.

Chapter 1 · The Arrival

A quiet entry court of wood, stone and light

Wide concrete stepping pads float over dark river rock on the way to the front door, each one edged with a slim strip of light. A wood-look deck sets a lounge corner against the warm wood screen, and grasses and broad-leaf plants are lit from below. It is a calm, textured welcome that suits the house.

Chapter 2 · The Terraces

Crisp, angled steps outlined in light

Neutral pavers and poured steps zigzag down from the house to the garden, with a warm wood tread on top and hidden strip lights tucked under every edge. A pattern of hex pavers and concrete pads with pebble joints marks the dining spot, framed by a clean concrete retaining wall.

Chapter 3 · The Fire Table

A sunken lounge built around the flame

A long concrete fire table filled with smooth lava stones anchors a sunken seating area, with built-in benches running along the walls. Warm light glows from beneath the bench edges and steps, and tall columnar conifers along the back edge give the space privacy.

Chapter 4 · The Pavilion

A cedar-roofed pavilion for evenings outside

At the far end, a flat-roofed pavilion shelters a lounge and a stone-topped bar, with a warm wood ceiling, recessed lights and a ceiling fan. Horizontal wood slats make a rich backdrop, and a paver path with low bollard lights leads the way in. From under the roof you look back across the terraces to the glowing house.
