The Garden

A backyard set up for cooking and dining outside

Warm gray pavers run from the kitchen island to a dining area and on to a pergola corner, with a green lawn and mulched beds around the edges. Clean-lined stone and stainless steel tie the cooking side together, and low stone walls keep the layers tidy.

Chapter 1 · The Kitchen

A built-in island with room to cook

A long stucco island holds a stainless grill, a sink, a refrigerator and a mix of drawers and doors, all under a pale veined stone countertop with a mitred end. It sits on a field of warm gray pavers, so cooking and dining share one surface.

Chapter 2 · The Pergola

A pergola corner for shade

Chapter 3 · The Lawn

Stepping pavers and planting

Rectangular pavers step across the green lawn on a diagonal, past mulch beds with roses, grasses and a glazed planter. Path lights sit low in the beds, and a stepped block wall gives the yard a gentle change of level.
