The Garden

A courtyard for every hour of the day

The garden follows the house: white stucco, dark timber and terracotta tile set the mood, and the courtyard repeats those materials in a built-in fireplace, a patterned tile floor and a timber pergola. Travertine paving links the lounge, the kitchen and the dining table.

Chapter 1 · The Fireplace Lounge

A built-in fire and a tiled floor

A curved stucco wall with built-in seat cushions wraps around the fireplace. Underfoot, a blue and white patterned tile floor sets the lounge apart from the pale travertine around it, and tropical planting rises behind.

Chapter 2 · The Outdoor Kitchen

A grill island under timber beams

A built-in grill with pale blue cabinet fronts and stainless drawers runs along the house wall. A timber pergola overhead softens the sun, and the travertine floor continues to a long dining table at the far end.

Chapter 3 · Pergola & Shade

Dinner under the lanterns

A long timber table sits under the pergola with glass lanterns hanging from the beams and a heater mounted along the crossbeam. Bright bougainvillea and palms frame the courtyard beyond.

Chapter 4 · After Dark

A lounge that glows

Uplit palms and bamboo frame the fire, and the warm light off the stucco picks out the tile pattern on the floor. Poufs and daybeds pull people in around the flames.
